Sail Day
The 32nd Rotary Club of Hobart Charity Sail Day was held on Friday, 3rd March 2023
The 32nd Sail Day was held on a pleasant summer day on Friday 3rd March 2023, with over 40 skippers donating their boats and crew, and businesses ‘hiring’ them for the day for a cruise down the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. As a result of the generosity of participating businesses, sponsors and those attending as guests, nearly $30,000 was raised on the day, a fantastic result after the challenges of the past year.
The Rotary Club of Hobart Sail Day Committee would like to thank the following for their valued assistance; all boat owners, skippers and crew, local yacht clubs, Tasmanian Bakeries, PFD Food Services, Salamanca Fresh, Coca-Cola Amatil, T-Bone Brewery, Frank's Cider, Robert Oatley Wines, the Mercury and Before Creative and all the sponsors of prizes for the raffle. We also acknowledge the Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club for their support on the day.

Congratulations to the winners in the Sail Day raffle and a big thankyou to the donors of the prizes and all those who purchased a ticket.
An further congratulations to the winners in the Sail Day "Distillers" raffle and a big thankyou to the donors of the prizes and all those who purchased a ticket.
The Rotary Charity Sail Day has become a favourite annual event for the Tasmanian business community, boat owners and skippers. The Sail Day has raised in excess of $1 million and remains one of Tasmania's largest and most sought after sailing and fundraising events of this type.
Sail Day is hosted by the Rotary Club of Hobart with generous support from the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. Their members, together with members of the Derwent Sailing Squadron, Bellerive Yacht Club and the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania generously donate their yachts and crew for the day to make the whole event possible. We are most grateful for their support.
If you are looking for an occasion to reward achievers in your business, whether they be staff or customers, then Sail Day is an exciting option.
There are usually around forty to fifty yachts and motor cruisers participating including some of Hobart's best-known ocean racers and cruisers. Businesses sponsor a yacht for the day at a cost of $990 (inc GST) and standard packages are available for yachts accommodating up to 8 guests. Fully catered lunches including drinks are generously provided by some of Hobart's principal food and beverage suppliers.
Our supporters come from a broad range of industry – companies large and small. Regulars, some of whom have participated in each of our events to date, regard the Sail Day as their major corporate entertainment function for the year. The attraction is the unique opportunity to entertain guests on board a cruise to the iconic D'Entrecastreaux Channel for a fun "raft up" and entertainment.
ON THE DAY
The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Bellerive Yacht Club, Derwent Sailing Squadron, Kings Pier Marina and the Motor Yacht Club will be used as departure points.
The day commences at 9.00 am with boarding at the departure points. The fleet then assembles at the starting line under the direction of the Cruise Commodore for departure as a group at 10.00 am. We then all cruise together to a suitable destination in the Channel. Our destination will be chosen by the Cruise Commodore having regard to weather conditions. On arrival at the destination boats are encouraged to raft up together in groups to facilitate networking, fellowship and fun. If there are any particular groups that would like to raft together that can be arranged.
CATERING
Sail Day is made possible by our sponsors. We gratefully acknowledge the support of our provisioning sponsors: National Pies, Coca-Cola, Robert Oatley Wines and Salamanca Fresh. And a big welcome to our new beverage sponsors T-Bone Brewery and Frank's Cider.
Food and drinks are provided. A list of all provisions supplied on the day can be viewed by clicking here.
Additional provisions can be ordered through the form found here.
WHAT TO BRING
Participants are asked to wear soft-sole shoes (not black please) and bring a hat, warm pullover or weatherproofs and other appropriate clothing. Don't forget the sunscreen.
As a guest on the yacht please ensure that all on board observe responsible serving and consumption of alcohol so as not to impact either on the enjoyment of the event and/or compromise the safety of others.
Yachts normally return to the yacht club of departure in the late afternoon (approximately 4.00 - 5.00 pm) but an earlier return can be arranged with your skipper if required.
