The Rotary Club of Hobart held its 22nd annual Art Show at the Boardwalk Gallery 1-3 July. It was another amazing event showcasing over 300 pieces from more than 120 local artists.
As part of the Show, patrons had the opportunity to vote for their favourite pieces in the Gallery. Hundreds of votes were cast. Prizes for the first, second and third Viewer's Choice place getters were kindly donated by Artery. Artery has been a valued sponsor of the Art Show for many years.
The first place recipient was John Fisher-Thomas for 'Loyal Talent Heads Out'.
Second place was awarded to Annie Bird for 'Glorious to the End'.
Third place went to Joan Humble for 'Cradle Mountain from Twisted Lakes' .
Rotarian volunteers at the Show also had the opportunity to cast their votes for their favourite piece, to select the 'Fred Peacock Packer's Prize', named in honour of Rotarian Fred Peacock who for many years organised hanging all the works on display. The piece receiving this honour was 'Loyal Talent Heads Out' by John Fisher-Thomas.
The piece awarded the 2011 Platinum Sponsor Award was selected by representatives from Forestry Tasmania, who once again sponsored the Rotary Club of Hobart Art Show as the major sponsor, and provided a beautiful specialty timber piece as the prize for the award.The Rotary Club of Hobart and the 2011 Art Show Committee are very grateful to Forestry Tasmania for their generous support of the art show. This sponsorship allows the Club to host the event and enable local gifted artisans to display their work at the Show.
The 2011 Platinum Sponsor Award is presented to 'Shoreline IV' by Tom Andersen.
The Ted Pool Memorial Award is selected by UTAS School of Fine Art. Funds for this Award are provided by the Rotary Club of Hobart in memory of respected business man and former Club member - Ted Pool. Ted was himself a gifted artist. The scholorship funds provided by this award assist a student in their studies of Fine Arts at UTAS.The 2011 Ted Pool Memorial Award recipeint is Anna Maree Hanssen.
