Hobart WaterfrontThe Rotary Club of Hobart is the largest Rotary Club in Tasmania. It meets every Thursday at the Grand Chancellor on the Hobart waterfront. The Club holds lunch-time meetings from 1.00 p.m. to 2.00 p.m. sharp. The Club supports many local and overseas charities and runs a number of annual and one-off fund raisers. Rotary Tasmania provides $900,000 for Queensland flood recovery project

Queensland FloodsMurphy's Creek in Queensland's Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane, was devastated by flood waters sweeping through the area earlier this year.  Some of the most horrific images of flooding were taken at Murphy’s Creek where more than twenty people perished and dozens of houses were swept away.

To assist the Murphy’s Creek community to get back on its feet, Rotary Tasmania has decided to donate the $900,000 raised by its Queensland Flood Appeal to the construction of a multi-purpose centre in the town.

2011 Rotary Club of Hobart Art Show Prizes

The Rotary Club of Hobart held its 22nd annual Art Show at the Boardwalk Gallery 1-3 July. It was another amazing event showcasing over 300 pieces from more than 120 local artists.

As part of the Show, patrons had the opportunity to vote for their favourite pieces in the Gallery. Hundreds of votes were cast. Prizes for the first, second and third Viewer's Choice place getters were kindly donated by Artery. Artery has been a valued sponsor of the Art Show for many years.

The first place recipient was John Fisher-Thomas for 'Loyal Talent Heads Out'.

Second place was awarded to Annie Bird for 'Glorious to the End'.

Third place went to Joan Humble for 'Cradle Mountain from Twisted Lakes' .

Rotary and local government flood relief partnership

In response to the unprecedented need for resources to repair the devastation caused to homes and businesses by the floods in Queensland, Rotary’s business and community networks in Tasmania have gone into full swing.

The Rotary network in the State was the key service group which provided massive support to the victims of the Victorian bushfires, and the call for help from Queensland has again seen clubs throughout Tasmania marshall their resources to urgently organise local assistance.
