Donate Unwanted Spectacles

E-mail Print PDF

Donate unwanted spectaclesOur collection of old spectacles will be passed onto optometrists next week. This is a last request for members to clean out their drawers to find all those glasses you have kept “just in case” you may need them.

The major cause of blindness in the world today is caused by the lack of glasses. This was said by Andrew Hogan; a guest speaker at our Club last year. He said that suitable lenses can be made relatively cheaply; it was the lack of frames that limited distribution to those who needed glasses.

So please bring along any old ones to this Thursday lunch before they are distributed next week. Place them in the colourful box on the entrance table.

Rotary Club of Hobart turns 85 and farewell to Colleen Dean

E-mail Print PDF

On the 2nd August 1924 the Rotary Club of Hobart obtained its Charter. This year we celebrate the 85th anniversary of that meeting.  A beautiful chocolate cake was enjoyed by members at lunch this week - some enjoyed it more than others!

As well as our club's birthday this week, we say farewell to Past President Colleen Dean.  Colleen has been a committed and much loved member of our club and we will miss her very much.  Godd luck for the future Colleen and for adventures to come.
